2004 Year End Update
It was another exciting year for the membership of the Automotive Service Councils of California. Representing over 1,500 repair facilities in the state of California, and with a number of other members associated with the automotive aftermarket, 2006 looks even better.
With the help of our valued members, in 2004 we fought many legislative battles, including the adoption of the Joint Legislative Sunset Review Committee’s recommendations regarding certain reforms in the Bureau of Automotive Repair and other critical issues such as worker’s compensation reform and battling the never-ending series of employer mandates. We also participated in two successful ballot initiative campaigns in California this year. ASC devoted staff time, communications resources and monetary support to the “Yes on 64” campaign which will stop shakedown lawsuits and abuse of B&P Code 17200 for small businesses throughout California. ASC did the same with the “No on Prop 72” campaign which will overturn SB 2, which called for a $7 billion tax on business to support mandated health care coverage. Both campaigns were victorious in November of 2004- in part due to ASC’s aggressive grass roots campaigning.
In 2004, we launched our new website at www.ascca.com with a renewed focus on serving both our industry and also consumers in the state of California. We continue to work with our other association partners both at the state and national levels to promote the interests of our industry and our various memberships. Additionally, ASC conducted a successful educational series that brought cutting edge training on hybrid vehicles to automotive repair shops across California and have several more of these events on our radar screen for 2005.
In 2004, we made giant strides with our Long Range Strategic Plan, but 2005 will be a watershed year for ASC. We are energized and moving forward with a re-invention of our organization. We will stay committed to legislation and education, but look for big things from ASC in the future. Your continued financial support will allow us to implement a bold, new vision for the future.
In following with our dedication to membership services, we will continue to support our membership through our:
- ABILITY TO SAVE MEMBERS $$$ WITH INDUSTRY DISCOUNTS
