Training for the Automotive Professional

The only way to make sure you stay at the top of your game is to keep learning. It’s obvious that your technicians need to stay up to date, but your shop managers need to stay sharp on changes in employment law, strategic planning and other core business necessities in this day and age.

You will find resources to do just that by following these links. The “Organizational Training” section includes links to such entities as AMI and ASE. Our “Individual Training” section includes pages dedicated to individuals who can offer you seminars that you may find useful. If you are a trainer, or if you are a chapter member who recently attended some quality training and have someone to refer, please let us know by sending an email to info@ascca.com.

BAR Licensing

Repair Only Licensing

Technicians can now repair a failed Smog, with the Repair Only License. This license is now available – there is no need to wait until the new Smog Program (CalVis) starts next year. To receive the Repair Only License, an individual must take and pass the BAR test. ASCCA obtained study and reference material for the test from BAR. Below are the Exam Handbook, the Smog Check Procedures Manual, and the Smog Check Reference Guide. You may download and print these materials as study guides for the test.

Repair Only License Study Handbook - This handbook includes the exam plan which provides the proportional breakdown of the exam, as well as the detailed knowledge and abilities covered by the exam. Study should focus on the highest percentage of questions.

Smog Check Procedures Manual & Smog Check Reference Guide - These two documents are very important because 21% of the Repair Only License exam covers non-repair items.
