Minimum Wage Increase on July 1st Prompts Posting Requirement

Minimum Wage Increase on July 1st Prompts Posting Requirement

On TeamTalk this week, Stuart Terry sent a reminder that employees must receive notice from their employer of the scheduled change of pay rate because on July 1, the minimum wage in California increased from $8 per hour to $9 per hour. Click on the attachment below for the official notice for all employers to post or distribute explaining the minimum wage increase (be sure to document that you did it). Official Minimum Wage Notice California employers should ensure that all hours worked as of July 1, 2014 are paid at the new higher rate. Employers should also review base salaries for all exempt employees to ensure they still qualify as exempt employees (i.e., they are paid at least two times the minimum wage, which works out to $37,440 annually). The minimum wage will increase again to $10 an hour on January

GRANDMOTHERING BILL SIGNED: TAKES IMMEDIATE EFFECT

July 8, 2014 - SB 1446 (DeSaulnier) has been signed by Governor Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown, Jr. to provide some small employers with non-grandfathered health insurance policies in effect as of December 31, 2013, the option to renew their existing coverage for one year, rather than be required to move to new coverage by the end of 2014. SB 1446's extension will be of direct help to some small California employers who opted to early renew their health coverage in 2013. Many of these employers were facing above normal increases under the new ACA plans in 2014. SB 1446 only applies if the small business had not already purchased an ACA-compliant policy.
